Transabdominal Ultrasound

Transvaginal Ultrasound
During a transvaginal ultrasound, the technician uses a special transducer they insert in your vagina. Dr. Sylvester may request a transvaginal ultrasound so she can examine your reproductive organs more closely.
Dr. Sylvester may recommend a gynecological ultrasound to find the underlying cause of your pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding. An ultrasound may help her diagnose:
The ultrasound also allows her to evaluate the structure of your reproductive organs to look for abnormalities that may explain your infertility.
There are many times throughout your pregnancy when the team may perform ultrasounds. Forexample, Dr. Sylvester may request an ultrasound at your first pregnancy care appointment to confirm pregnancy, help estimate your due date, examine your uterus, and locate your placenta.
The team also performs pregnancy ultrasounds between weeks 18 and 20 of your pregnancy. During this ultrasound, the team evaluates your baby and your uterus.
Dr. Sylvester may also perform ultrasounds during your pregnancy, such asthe nuchal translucency test (NTT) to screen for chromosomal abnormalities and the nonstress test (NST) to assess your baby’s health.
